A sweeping barred spiral galaxy marks the spot in this image, but the real treasure is the gravitational lens in the lower-right corner, where a distant background galaxy is being magnified and distorted by the gravity of a closer galaxy.

A "space jellyfish" happens near sunrise or sunset when the exhaust plume from the rocket becomes brightly illuminated, creating a glowing shape resembling a jellyfish.

Spotted: views of a "space jellyfish" following today's launch of NASA’s SpaceX 35th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station.

Space news, hot off the trail: NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover has driven farther than any vehicle ever has on the surface of another world! On Oct. 11, the rover’s odometer reached 28.10 miles (45.22 kilometers), eclipsing the record of 28.06 miles (45.16 kilometers) set by NASA’s Opportunity rover, which explored Mars from 2004 to 2018.

Whatever your weekend holds, we hope it has at least one moment this beautiful!

POV: returning to Earth after spending 237 days living and working in orbit! NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission safely splashed down Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Los Angeles.
